International Museum Day

International Museum Day is organised worldwide on and around May 18 each year since 1977.

Do you like going to museums? I think everybody loves museums, certainly when their access is free!

There are many museums in Kyiv and at present free entrance is common used in World practice first of all for cognitive and aesthetic purposes.

So, that's why I set a list of museums for free on certain days. Enjoy and get educated!

Following museums are for free on IMD:

• The Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko Museum of Arts
• National Museum “Kyiv Art Gallery”
• The National Museum of Natural History
• National Museum of Ukrainian History
• The National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War - after 6 p.m. this year + Doors Open Days on May 9th and October 14th
• The National Museum "Holodomor victims Memorial" - also on January, 22; June, 28; August, 23-24; November, 21 and on the fourth Saturday of November

• National Museum of Ukrainian History

Every first Wednesday of the month

• National Museum “Kyiv Art Gallery”&Art Center “Chocolate House” -  from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• The National Museum of Natural History - from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., except May

Every last Wednesday of the month

• Taras Shevchenko`s Literary and Memorial House-Museum 

Every last Thursday of the month

• National Museum of Taras Shevchenko

• The National Art Museum of Ukraine - free entrance for Ukrainian citizens

• Kyiv national museum of Russian art - on Sundays
• The National Museum of Natural History - free admission for children under 6 years
• The Museum of live Jellyfish - free admission for children under 5 years
• National Museum of Ukrainian History - free admission for children under 7 years
• The National Museum "Holodomor victims Memorial" - free entrance for children under 7 years old
• The national center of folk culture “Ivan Honchar Museum” - on Sundays
• Museum of Folk Architecture and Folkways of Ukraine 'Pyrohiv' - free for children under 7 years
• The National Art Museum of Ukraine - on Wednesdays

On September 1st aka the Day of Knowledge

• Kyiv national museum of Russian art - for schoolers
• The National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War - for schoolchildren and students

• The Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II - Climbing to the observation decks «Extreme» – 91,0 m (18years+ only) costs 300uah and «Outlook» – 36,6 m (6 years+) costs 70uah. Both open under good weather conditions (t °C from +5 till +30), without precipitation and strong wind gusts. N.B.! Be sure to sign up in the morning, because «Extreme» deck capacity is 2 people per hour. 
  
  
  
  
• Kyiv Metro Museum - Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. until 5p.m. Excursions are free, but only for groups 10-20 people. Reservation is a must.
